The year of an evaluation by your administrator is always stressful. As teachers, we know what we put into our lesson planning and teaching, but proving it to an administrator is exhausting and overwhelming. As a preschool teacher of students with special needs, I often can’t even begin to tackle some of the domains for my evaluation. One of those for me involves students teaching other students, better known as “student-centered learning”.
Having student-centered learning in your classroom with young students and students with special needs is challenging, but it is possible! These products help me “prove” that this type of learning is happening! Even if you aren’t being evaluated, these benefit your students yearly. Circle Time Board – focus wall bulletin board – Student-Centered Learning
Use this focus wall at circle time to review concepts already taught throughout the school year! It’s colorful, engaging, and interactive. Have students play “teacher” and review all the academic skills they have already learned. This whole product comes in color and black and white. Print copies of the cones and make an assessment data wall in your classroom. Work on colors, shapes, numbers, letters, etc. When students master a skill, have them color it and attach it to their ice cream cone. The list of ideas is endless!
Student Self-Assessment Books– Student-Centered Learning
Use this simple self-assessment tool for your youngest students to self-evaluate their academic skills! This is perfect for an administrative evaluation! It’s so tricky for our smallest learners to self-assess. Use this the entire year and have students color in the skills they have mastered! Put it somewhere easily accessible in your classroom. Laminate the colored copy to do a quick assessment of a specific student. This is a fantastic tool for IEP profiles, parent-teacher conferences, or easy access when planning instruction!
Interactive Bulletin Board BUNDLE– Student-Centered Learning
Use this GIANT BUNDLE of 16 interactive bulletin boards for your school year! Each month, I have created a literacy set and a math set. Focus on a specific standard for each month. Teach these during whole-group instruction and then keep them up for the month so students can “teach” each other! Each set has a label for the bulletin board and an “I can” statement to post. Use this BUNDLE of posters around your classroom to make your bulletin boards interactive and engaging. Students can learn basic skills while interacting with the posters at center time or during free play. Post them all around your classroom for students to “play teacher.” It’s a fantastic tool for an administrative evaluation!
