Setting Up Your Line-Up Train

We struggle with students lining up on the first few days of school simply because they never had to do it before, they don’t know how, and some honestly don’t even know what a line is. I have used this simple shape train year after year, and I LOVE it! I love how visually appealing it is, how simple yet effective it is, and how we can teach about shapes daily without even trying! Here are the steps below to create your own!

  • Print out the shape train.
  • Cut out each shape with wheels.
  • Laminate each shape.
  • Tape the shape train to the floor. We used a large number line to gauge the distance we wanted! You use what you think works!
  • Cut out the right amount of contact paper to put over each shape.
  • VOILA! Shape train
  • SIDE NOTE- I have used large rolls to cover the whole thing, and I don’t like it as much as individually cut sheets.

You can also lay it out like this! We have debated which way to put it. You decide!
